Kharri was raised on tales of elusive, white-bellied wyvern riders. Hidden in the mountains behind a wall of iron-laced clouds called the Veil, the Ironborn embody everything Kharri longs for: adventure, a better life, purpose beyond what she can find in her village. Once a year, the clouds split and hopeful Ascending run into the harrowing unknown. Ever since her older brother disappeared beyond the swirling Veil in search of the Ironborn, Kharri has trained to do the same.

However, Kharri’s plan to rush past the others in pursuit of the peaks is quickly ripped away by injury, winter’s icy grip, and the vicious actions of her fellow Ascending. With the Veil shut behind her and treacherous terrain ahead, Kharri’s life hinges on the existence of the Ironborn. But with bloodshed hounding her heels, can she survive long enough to discover the truth behind the legend?
